New CIC outreach service to be provided in Ringsend

Dublin South East MABS helped over 280 clients and saw 191 new clients on their books during last year. Its client profile, while quite varied (similar to other MABS services) is now seeing an increase in the number of people in work who are seeking their assistance, which currently comprises 45% of its total number of clients.

These findings are included in the Dublin South East MABS Annual Report for 2014, which was launched today (Monday, 20 April 2015) by Kevin Humphreys, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Social Protection with special responsibility for Employment, Community and Social Support.

The Minister congratulated the management committee and staff of Dublin South East MABS on the services it provides: "I would like to acknowledge the quality service that you provide to people living in the areas of Dublin 2, 4 and 6. Indeed, I understand that, because of your location in the city centre, many who work in the area but who live outside of these catchment areas also avail of your service. Congratulations to the management committee and staff for delivering a sterling service which has led to Dublin South East MABS being recognised with the Sean Moore award for delivering a professional, courteous service and for keeping the best interests of the individuals they support at the heart of everything they do the past 20 years.

"Dublin South East MABS provide a valuable service at community level and works closely with a network of other support agencies in helping people manage their finances. I also note in the report that the Dublin South East MABS has seen an increase in the numbers of young single people accessing the service. I am pleased that young people are availing of the service and am confident that they find it useful to give them essential financial guidance as they start out in life. I welcome your active participation in community education initiatives and wish you every success with those you are focusing on this year."

Throughout the country, MABS has a tradition of providing a high quality personal service to assist people in overcoming their indebtedness and supporting them in managing their finances. More recently, many MABS services, including Dublin South East, have become involved in the provision of an approved intermediary service to assist with the processing of debt relief notices as part of the recently established insolvency service arrangements.

This year, the Department of Social Protection is providing funding of almost €18 million to MABS services nationwide, of which Dublin South East MABS will receive almost €279,000.

The Minister also welcomed a new Citizens Information Service to be provided in Ringsend shortly. Commencing this week, a new outreach service will be provided at Ringsend Community Centre every Thursday between 9.30am and 12.30pm. The service will be provided by Rathmines Citizens Information Centre.
