Tuesday, 11th February, 2014:

The Department of Social Protection wishes to advise any remaining customers who receive their social welfare payments into Danske Bank accounts and who have not yet availed of alternative banking arrangements that they will need to do so to ensure continuity of payment.

Following Danske Bank’s announcement in October 2013 that it is to discontinue personal banking operations in Ireland, many Department customers have already put in place alternative banking arrangements and have notified the Department of same.

The Department advises any remaining customers who are currently getting their social welfare payments paid into an account with Danske Bank to inform the Department immediately of their alternative banking arrangements.

Where a social welfare payment is paid into a customer’s bank account that has closed, it may result in the payment being returned to the Department of Social Protection and cause unnecessary delays for the customer.  Such delays can be avoided if the customers provide the Department with the details of their alternative banking arrangements as early as possible.

Customers who have any questions regarding their Social Welfare payments being paid into Danske Bank accounts may contact their local Social Welfare Office or the Department’s main number
- 01 704 3000.
