Minister Burton presents certificates to participants at the Multiple Sclerosis Community Employment Project Ltd.

Joan Burton, Minister for Social Protection, today (Friday 9 th April 2011) visited the MS Care Centre in Rathgar and presented FETAC certificates to participants on the Multiple Sclerosis Community Employment Programme.

Congratulating the participants at the MS Care Centre, Minister Burton said: “Well done to you for your hard work and determination in achieving your goals and obtaining FETAC Level 5 qualifications. Training and personal development offers a chance for personal success, a sense of satisfaction and, in many cases, employment. Indeed, last year, six participants in this programme secured employment in Home Care and Nursing Homes and two people went on to further education.”

A variety of work opportunities are available to the participants on Multiple Sclerosis Community Employment Project which includes work experience as Care Assistants, House-keepers, Administrators and Caretakers/Gardeners.

Participants can avail of computer training, payroll and in house training offered by the MS Care Centre. In addition, the type of training availed of by some of the scheme participants include FETAC Level 5 in Care Skills, Care of the Older Person, Palliative Care, Communications and Health and Safety, which culminates in the achievement of the FETAC Level 5 Health Care Support Award which was presented to seven participants on the Community Employment Scheme today.

Minister Burton continued: “The Government recognises the valuable contribution that CE can make; the evidence of this is easy to see here today. We have committed to spending €315 million on CE schemes in 2012. I have said on a number of occasions recently and I want to reiterate here today that there is no reduction in the 23,300 CE places for 2012.”

Minister Burton concluded by again congratulating the participants on achieving their qualifications and wishing them well in their future endeavours.
