Introduction
Ensuring people with disabilities are supported to achieve their employment ambitions is one of the most significant labour market and social policy challenges for policymakers today.
To this end, the Government’s ten-year Comprehensive Employment Strategy for People with Disabilities was launched by An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny T.D. in October 2015.
The strategy’s six priority areas are:
- Build skills, capacity and independence
- Provide bridges and supports into work
- Make work pay
- Promote job retention and re-entry to work
- Provide coordinated and seamless support
- Engage employers
This Report represents the findings and recommendations of the Make Work Pay Interdepartmental Group, which was established to address Strategic Priority 3, “Make Work Pay”.
The report
was launched by the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar (then Minister for Social
Protection), Minister for Health, Simon Harris and Minister of State with
special responsibility for disability, Finian McGrath on 6th April
2017.

L-R: Joan O’Donnell, Disability Federation; An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar (then Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection); Professor Frances Ruane, Chair of Make Work Pay Plenary Group.
Following the recent launch of the Report and in consultation with our stakeholders, a number of additional accessible formats are now available. These include captioned sign language videos, audio recordings and braille versions of the report.
