DEASP statement re. Household Budget service issues

The Household Budget service is a free service provided by An Post which allows participants to pay regular amounts into a household budget account which then goes towards paying various household bills. Social Welfare recipients can arrange to automatically lodge money directly from their Social Welfare payments into their household budget account.

The Department is aware that Disability Allowance recipients who use the An Post Household Budget service and who are due to receive a Disability Allowance payment on this coming Wednesday, 7th November, will not have their usual Household Budget deduction automatically applied and lodged into their Household Budget account. Instead they will receive the full amount, without deduction, of their Disability Allowance payment.

The Department is also aware that recipients who received a State Pension Contributory, State Pension Non-Contributory or a Widows Contributory pension payment last Friday 2nd November experienced the same issue.- and did not have their usual Household Budget deduction automatically applied and lodged into their Household Budget account.

There has been no loss of any Social Welfare payment but those affected may need to make alternative arrangements for payments towards household bills this week. The Department will be writing to directly to all those affected to advise them of this matter.

The Department wishes to confirm that Household Budget deductions from Social Welfare payments will be restored back to normal this week.
