Customer Update: Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance Scheme (BSCFA)

All applications received up until the 26th/27th July have been acknowledged and customers will have received a text to let them know that their application is pending.

Applications received on 10th July are currently being processed and these customers will shortly receive confirmation of the outcome in writing, with payments issuing to eligible customers on a daily basis.

We will continue to provide updates on application processing dates/timelines on our website and social media over the coming days.

The BSCFA section continues to experience some delays in processing the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance (BSCFA) and the Department continues to ask customers who have made an application to bear with us, while we work to clear the backlog as quickly as possible. In order to maximise the number of applications that can be processed, for a period the BSCFA phone line will be closed. This means that staff can focus on processing customer claims as quickly as possible and additional staff resources have also been assigned to the section.

The Department understand the concerns of parents and guardians and appreciate the pressure that families are under in meeting costs associated with children returning to school. The Department apologises to all customers who are waiting to hear on the status of their application.

Customer Update: Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance

The Department is currently experiencing delays in processing the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance (BSCFA).  These delays are due to a combination of technical issues with payments and a high volume of new applications received in the last four weeks.  As a result, we have been responding to a high volume of calls from customers regarding their application status.  We sincerely apologise to all customers affected by this delay and for any inconvenience caused.

Applications received in the week ending 6 July are currently being processed.  Customers who have submitted applications in the last 2 weeks will receive a text notification to confirm receipt of their application.  If eligible, they will soon receive their payment, with weekly payments being made thereafter.  We shall continue to provide updates on application processing across our social media over the coming weeks.

As we focus on processing these remaining applications, phone coverage may be limited during this period.  We are aiming to clear this backlog as soon as possible and in the meantime ask customers to kindly bear with us

Means Test
Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance is a means tested allowance. Qualifying for the allowance in a previous year does not automatically guarantee applicants will receive it in the current year.  Many customers, especially with a change in means or circumstance, will need to make a new application for the payment for this year.

Customers who we believe qualify for the payment in 2018 have already contacted.  They do not need to re-apply.  However, if you have not received this written confirmation, you will need to make a new application.

Further Details
Applications for Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance are open until 30 September.

Application forms are available to download from www.welfare.ie/forms or at your local Intreo Centre.

To request a form by post, please text BSCFA1 followed by your name and address to 51909

Customer Update: Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance

The Department is currently experiencing delays in processing the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance (BSCFA). The delays have arisen as a result of a combination of technical issues with payments, and a high volume of new applications received in the past three weeks. As a result, the Department is currently receiving a high volume of calls from customers enquiring as to their application status, and it is taking a long time to answer customer calls. The Department wishes to sincerely apologise to customers affected for the delay and inconvenience caused.

Currently applications received in the week ending 29 June are being processed. These customers will shortly receive a text notification to confirm receipt of their application and where eligible, will receive their payment shortly thereafter, with payments being made to customers on a weekly basis. The Department will continue to provide updates on application processing dates/timelines here on our website and also on social media over the coming weeks.

Furthermore, the Department expects that all customers who have submitted a BSCFA Application to date, will receive confirmation of the receipt of this application within the coming two to three weeks and, where eligible, will receive confirmation of same and their payment as soon as possible thereafter.

As resources are being concentrated on the processing of outstanding applications, during this period there will be limited phone cover available in order to maximise the number of application that can be processed. The Department is asking customers who have made an application to bear with us, while we work to clear the backlog as quickly as possible. The Department will regularly provide updates on our website and social media during this period. Please continue to check here and follow our twitter account for further updates.

Again, we wish to assure customers that we are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and again apologies for the inconvenience to customers.

Customers are reminded that the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance is a means tested allowance. Qualifying for the allowance in a previous year does not in any way guarantee the customer will receive it in the current year and many customers, especially those who have had a change in their means or circumstance, will need to make an application for the payment for this year.

The Department has already contacted all customers who we believe qualify for the payment in 2018 and who do not need to apply. Customers who have not received this written confirmation will need to make an application. Applications for Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance are open until 30 September and application forms are available to download from www.welfare.ie/forms or at your local Intreo Centre. To request a form by post, please text BSCFA1 followed by your name and address to 51909
