Responsibility for the Civil Registration Act 2004 was transferred from the Department of Health to the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection on 1 January 2008.

The Civil Registration Act 2004 provides for the operation of the Civil Registration Service, including the registration of births, stillbirths, adoptions, marriages, civil partnerships and deaths.

Gender Recognition Bill 2014

The Gender Recognition Bill 2014, which was published in December 2014, provides for the legal recognition of the acquired gender of transgender persons.
