Special arrangements for social welfare payments by cheque during the duration of the current dispute at An Post will continue for the duration of the dispute.
Mary Coughlan, Minister for Social and Family Affairs, said today: "I would encourage customers collecting cheques in my Department’s office to take the opportunity to arrange payment directly to their bank or building society accounts, if at all possible."
"My staff will make forms available to customers at local offices or from the Department's website
www.welfare.ie so that they can have their benefits paid into the bank or building society account," added Minister Coughlan.
The facility to have payments made directly to a bank/building society account is available for all payments except Disablement Benefit and Unemployed casual workers.
Cheque collection centres have been set up at Social Welfare Local Offices in affected areas where all Social Welfare cheques,
including Supplementary Welfare Allowance cheques, can be collected.
Customers should contact the appropriate office for details of collection times.
Customers who normally collect their payment at their local post office, or have their payment lodged to a Bank/Building Society account will continue to receive their payment as normal. Customers can also leave in their Medical Certificates, Disability Claim Forms and Injury Benefit Claim Forms to the collection centres.
