The Department of Social and Family Affairs has received a copy of a report by the Combat Poverty Agency on waste collection charges and low-income households, which has been prepared at the request of the National Advisory Committee of the Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS).
A Departmental spokesperson noted that the Report has highlighted the complexity of the issue, which is characterised by significant local variation as regards waste collection methods, charges, payment arrangements and financial impact on households. The Report shows that some MABS offices identified waste charges as an issue for their clients but others did not.
The Report will be considered by the Department of Social and Family Affairs in consultation with the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.
