"I welcome this moderate increase in the uptake on personal/occupational coverage as set out in the latest
CSO pensions update for the first quarter of this year, " said Mary Coughlan Minister for Social and Family Affairs today.
"These results show a modest increase in the percentage covered since the last survey was undertaken at the end of 2001/early 2002. Coverage rates will need to increase much faster over the next two years if we are to see significant progress by the time the statutory review is due in late 2006," said the Minister.
"The National Pensions Awareness Week campaign commences next week which will focus the public's mind on their future, what they want from their retirement and how they will provide for that eventuality - and I hope to see that awareness reflected in a higher pensions coverage in future surveys, " added Minister Coughlan.
