Telephone Allowance Budget 2014 - Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. I am receiving the telephone allowance on my telephone bill every month, how will this change affect me?

A1. From the 1st January 2014 the telephone allowance will be discontinued and will no longer be applied to your bill.

 

Q2. I am receiving �9.50 cash payment per month, how will this affect me?

A2. From the 1st January 2014 the telephone allowance will be discontinued and will no longer be paid into your nominated bank or post office account.

 

Q3. Does this change affect my choice of service provider?

A3. No, this change does not affect your choice of service provider; you are open to choosing the supplier who can best meet your needs. It is advisable to shop around for the best value from suppliers. The Commission for Communications Regulation website www.callcosts.ie has information on to help consumers to compare the cost of personal/non-business mobile, home phone and broadband price plans.

 

Q4 Are there any other supports towards the cost of monitored personal alarms?

A4. The Dept of Environment Community and Local Government operate a scheme called Seniors Alert Scheme which provides grant assistance towards the purchase and installation of monitored personal alarms to enable older persons without sufficient means to continue to live securely in their homes.
