Over 100 Jobs on Offer at Mid-West ‘Job Shop’ – Limerick’s Jobs Fair and Career Advice Event

Part of National Jobs Week which runs from Monday 26th to Friday 30th September 2016

National Jobs Week is an annual initiative hosted by the Department of Social Protection to showcase the range of employment supports and services available to employers and jobseekers.  Jobs Week 2016 will run from Monday, 26th September to Friday, 30th September.  Over 14,000 jobseekers participated in Jobs Week last year and a similar level of interest is expected this year.

Over 150 events will be held in venues across the country to provide information and practical support to local employers and jobseekers. These include Jobs Fairs, Career Advice Workshops, job shadowing initiatives, networking events with employers and briefings for employers on the services offered by the Department.

The Minister for Social Protection, Leo Varadkar urged jobseekers across Ireland to check out events in their counties. “I encourage jobseekers and employers to visit some of their local Jobs Week events. Whether you're looking for work or for a new or better job, services on offer include advice on applying for jobs, preparing CVs and interview skills as well as job offers. Employers also have an opportunity to find new staff from their local area.

"Unemployment has almost halved from a peak of 15% to 8.4% today and long-term unemployment is down to 4.4%.  The Government want to halve it again. This means intensifying our focus on activation and guiding more people into work through a 'jobs first' approach, improving the quality of jobs available by making sure that work pays through reductions in the USC and improving work-related social insurance benefits like paid paternity leave, and by focusing on intergenerational unemployment and jobless households."

Jim Lynch, Department of Social Protection Divisional Manager Mid-West said, “This year we have been overwhelmed with the support from local employers and training institutions.  Now in its fifth year, the Jobs Fair is an established event with a wide variety of jobs on offer.  This contributes to growing a stronger regional economy.  We are delighted to partner with the, the Limerick Chamber, The Mid West Regional Skills Forum, ULearning Skillnet, Limerick Chamber Skillnet, Business Excellence Skillnet and the Innovation and Lean Sigma Skillnet (ILSS), to offer this great opportunity to both Employers and the Jobseekers of the Mid-West Region”.

Companies attending range from multinationals to local small and medium sized enterprises and include Dell, the Irish Defence Forces, Atlantic Aviation Group, Phonewatch, Last Minute Minders, Pepper Asset Servicing, Northern Trust, Virgin Media, Stryker, STL Logistics and many more. A wide variety of positions are available across many sectors at www.job-shop.ie.

Following an Official Opening at 10.00am on Friday, 30th September by Minister Patrick O’ Donovan T.D., The Strand Hotel, Limerick, will be this year’s venue for the Mid-West ‘Job Shop’: a Jobsfair and Careers Advice Event. There will be 33 employers attending the event seeking employees with over 100 jobs on offer.   All Jobseekers are welcome to attend.

Co-ordinated by the Department of Social Protection, and sponsored by the Limerick Chamber, The Mid-West Regional Skills Forum, ULearning Skillnet, Limerick Chamber Skillnet, Business Excellence Skillnet and the Innovation and Lean Sigma Skillnet (ILSS).  This half day event (10am-3pm) on Friday, 30th September will provide an opportunity for jobseekers to meet with local companies who are actively recruiting.  Local training and Education providers are also exhibiting.

Local training providers attending range from Universities and local colleges to training centres. Also available is a panel of free career advisors. These qualified and highly experienced professionals will provide advice in strictest confidence to job seekers regardless of their backgrounds or qualifications. If any jobseeker requires assistance with their future career they can visit one of our advisors to help them identify suitable career options on the day.
