Minister Burton approves funding to raise public awareness for the UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

The Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton TD today (26 th June) approved funding of €30,000 to twelve community groups to support a public awareness initiative to promote the 17 th October 2012 as the UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

The Annual United Nations International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is a day to express friendship and solidarity with people who have to live with poverty and social exclusion every day of the year, in Ireland, Europe and around the world.

Speaking today, Minister Burton said: "I am delighted to make this funding available to the twelve community groups around the country to help raise awareness of poverty and social exclusion through their work. All of these groups have planned very interesting and thoughtful projects to mark the UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty."
