2017 Call for Submissions on the Proposed Working Family Payment

Print page

The Programme for a Partnership Government, May 2016, committed to introducing a new Working Family Payment.

The proposed Working Family Payment should be underpinned by the following two key principles-

  • Make Work Pay,
  • Tackling Child Poverty.
  • The approach therefore is to;
  • Specifically target low income families,
  • Promote work over welfare by supplementing, for low income families, on a graduated basis, the income of a household, while at the same time incentivising more work,
  • Play a vital role in assisting families to remain in work, incentivise those moving from welfare to work, and prevent families from becoming at risk of poverty.

The Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection is seeking submissions from interested parties in relation to this approach to inform the design of a Working Family Payment.

Your comments, observations and submissions should be submitted, by email to WFPConsult@welfare.ie or by post to Working Age and Child Income Policy, Áras Mhic Diarmada, Store Street, Dublin 1.

Please note that all submissions and comments submitted to the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection for this purpose may be subject to release under the Freedom of Information Act 2014.

The Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection may also quote from submissions in its reports, and will list the names of those who have made submissions.

Submissions extended to 5pm March 10th 2017.
