Dublin City Council’s Social Inclusion Awareness Week takes place from 17th – 21st May 2010.

Official launch by Lord Mayor Emer Costello on Monday 17th May 2010 at 12.00 Noon in The Atrium, Civic Offices Wood Quay, Dublin 8

This week is in celebration of the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion and Dublin European Capital of Sport 2010.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council

Social Inclusion Week in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown is a local celebration of the great work that is being undertaken by all residents of the County. It is taking place from the 16 - 23 October 2010.

The theme of the 2010 Celebration is: Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, linking in with the EU 2010 year.

South Dublin County Council is holding a Primary School Competition to mark the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.  Further information available on: ''

South Dublin County Council are also hosting How to cook on a Budget? Cookery demonstration in St. Peter the Apostle National School, Neillstown on 19 October, and in Cumas, Neillstown Shopping Centre and Deansrath Community Centre on 22 October and a World Café Discussion on Equality and Eradication of Poverty in Ireland on 21 October in Fettercairn Community Centre Tallaght.

“Take the 1st Step – Get Involved, make the Difference”: Social Inclusion Week 18 Oct – 22 Oct

Cavan Social Inclusion Week

Cavan Local Authorities are working with many other local organisations to host the first Social Inclusion Week in Cavan, which will take place from 18-23 October.  Cavan Social Inclusion Week will be launched at a seminar on Monday 18 October from 11am to 1pm in the Cavan Crystal Hotel. A range of activities will take place during the week including sports inclusion events, a poster campaign, exhibitions, drama, coffee mornings, a film screening, meetings, schools art competition,  Estate Awards night for local authority tenants, a Community Radio broadcast on poverty, a community safety initiative, an intercultural dance workshop, and local history work with foreign nationals.

Newcastle West Family Fun and Networking Day

Family Fun Day Promoting Integration through Play. The Newcastle West Language & Play Programme invite other local parent & toddler groups to a family fun day on 20 October  from 10.30am-12pm. Combining storytelling, nursery rhymes and singing the morning event is open to parents and children under 4 years old.

Kerry County Council - Community Communications Network project

The goal of the Community Communications Network project is to ensure that in the event of a public emergency, community communications channels are formally in place and that members are able to notify individuals, especially those with particular needs, of appropriate action.  A conference is being held on 15 October entitled: “ Developing a Community Communications Network” Following on from the Conference, Kerry County Council and the Kerry Community & Voluntary Forum have committed to action-planning the outcomes with the other Emergency Service Providers.

Cork County Council - Political Speed Dating Event

Cork County Council, through the Office of Community & Enterprise will hold a Political Speed Dating event on Thursday 21 October 2010.

 This fun and exciting session, which will bring together the Mayor of Cork County, Elected Members of the County Council and members of Cork County Youth Council.  The event will have a particular focus on social inclusion issues and will outline the aims and objectives of the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.

 Political speed dating is an innovative way of bringing young people and their political representatives together to discuss key issues for the County.

Wicklow County Council

To mark National Social Inclusion Week in Co. Wicklow local groups and organisations from all across the county are hosting an extensive range of activities and events.  Highlights of the week include; WEB’s Women’s Group cultural exchange morning with women from the Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland, Methodist Church Hall, Eglinton Road, Bray, 20 October,10.30am-12.30pm; Signal Art’s Centre viewing of the film Did Anyone Notice Us? Gay Visibility in the Irish Media 1973-1993, which is being introduced by its film maker Edmund Lynch, 21 October, 7.30pm; Traveller Animal Welfare Help and Advice Workshops being run in Bray and Wicklow; the Singalong Performance by Co. Leitrim County Council

Leitrim County Council are hosting a number of activities to mark Social Inclusion Week.  On 18 October an Intercultural sports event geared at old and new communities in Leitrim will take place. On 19 October an Interagency Soccer Tournament gives an opportunity for staff from different organizations to meet in an informal setting in order to increase networking and sharing of resources through interagency projects. Longford Local Authorities Social inclusion

Longford Local Authorities Social inclusion Awareness Week takes place from 18 -22 of October. Official Launch by Mayor Paul Connell on Wednesday 20 of October at 11.30 will take place in The Atrium, Civic Offices, Great Water Street, Longford. This week is a celebration of the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.

A range of events will be taking place over the week including an exhibition at the Civic Offices on ‘Longford Local Authorities Delivering Modern Local Services’, talks and events will be arranged throughout the week for a range of groups.

Donegal County Council

The Social Inclusion Unit of Donegal County Council will host Social Inclusion Week 2010 from the 18th - 22nd of October.  A wide range of events and activities are planned to celebrate and highlight the very positive work being undertaken not only by Donegal County Council but also by other public, private and community organisations in attempting reduce poverty and social exclusion and to raise awareness of social inclusion related issues in Donegal.

Children’s Group Link Workshop – 17 October 2010

Children’s Group Link is organising a Sunday workshop on 17 October from

12 p.m. - 4 p.m. for young people aged 13-18 where the impact of poverty on mental health, education and community will be discussed.

Initially the first session of the workshop will involve speakers raising awareness around the impact of poverty. The key issues of discussion will be the impact of poverty on mental health, education and community. The second session will involve the group meeting with the artistic directors and discussing how to get the message of UN Day and the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion through their artistic work. The participants will meet with the choreographer for the third session to create a dance to symbolise the solidarity of those experiencing poverty. The final steps will involve the group pulling the mural, model and dance together and exhibiting their work to the public on the same week.
