SOCIAL WELFARE (CONSOLIDATED CLAIMS, PAYMENTS AND CONTROL) (AMENDMENT) (CARER'S INCOME DISREGARD) REGULATIONS 2008

Social Welfare legislation currently provides that a person in receipt of Carer's Benefit may engage in employment or self employment outside the home, subject to a maximum of fifteen hours per week and an income ceiling of €320. Article 4(a) of these regulations increases the income ceiling to €332.50 per week, effective from 3 April, 2008. Article 4(b) of these regulations further provides for an increase in the income disregarded for the purposes of Carer's Allowance. In the case of a single person, the increase is €12.50 per week, bringing the total amount of the disregard to €332.50. In the case of a married person, the disregard is increased by €25 per week, to a new total of €665. These changes take effect from 3 April 2008.
