ATD 4th World recorded 5 testimonies of people living in poverty as part of the 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, which aired on "A Living Word" on Risin’ Time on RTE Radio 1 from 10 – 14 May in lead up to International Day of the Family on 15 May.

Irish Rural Link held its annual conference – titled "Challenges to Rural Wellbeing - Valuing Community in the Battle against Poverty and Social Exclusion" - in Killala, Co. Mayo as part of its programme to mark 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion. Irish Rural Link seek to explore how rural communities can best tackle these challenges in their own areas.

Near 90FM will host a panel discussion "Poverty in Families" as part of the 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion. The panel discussion will be broadcast on Wednesday 19 May at 12pm. It will be available as a podcast on 'www.near.ie' on Thursday 20 May and the programme will be re-broadcast again on Sunday 23 May at 12pm.

The broadcasts can be heard in North Dublin on 90.3fm or nationwide on livestreaming 'www.near.ie'

Near 90FM will be broadcasting a second panel discussion 'Exclusion from the Workplace' on Sunday June 6th @ 12pm. It will be repeated on Tuesday June 8 at 12pm and it will be available as a podcast from Wednesday June 9th from 'www.nearpodcast.org'

Walk Tall Fashion Show @ The Linenhall Arts Centre, highlighting the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion 2010

The featured designers who have been nominated for participation by Mayo Travellers Support Group, Mayo Intercultural Action and Castlebar Neighbourhood Youth, have worked with Castlebar’s Charity Retailers and three textile artists over six weeks at the Linenhall, to upstyle and re-fashion fifteen outfits that will receive their first public viewing at this fantastic event.

Lámh le Chéile – An Inclusive 'Singing and Signing' choir that brings people with and without disabilities together.

As part of the European year for combating poverty and social exclusion, Cork Music Works has facilitated the development of the Lámh le Chéile choir, an inclusive 'Singing and Signing' choir that brings young people with and without learning disabilities together. This choir combines lámh signs © (used with kind permission) with songs. Lámh is a sign system specifically designed for people with intellectual disabilities and communication needs in Ireland. After the official launch in CIT Cork School of Music as part of the Life long learning festival in March 2010, Lámh le Chéile has embarked on numerous performances involving students from Scoil Barra primary school, Our lady of Good Council Special school, members of Cork Music Works, music students and well know musicians from the Cork area.

Our next performances are on the 18th of June in Our Lady of Good Council School and Saturday the 19th of June in Douglas Village as part of the Mid- Summer Music Festival 2010.

Come along and get involved in Photography Workshops in your local Family Resource Centre. Learn to use a Digital Camera and produce an image for a local exhibition to mark European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion. Having your own camera desirable but not essential. Meet new people, learn a new skill. Spaces are limited and booking is essential.

This September, as part of National Adult Literacy Awareness Week and the 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, NALA will launch a campaign to encourage organisations dealing with members of the public facing disadvantage to be fully accessible to people with literacy difficulties. This will include a seminar on removing literacy-related barriers in organisations, followed by free plain English writing workshops for relevant staff in government departments, public bodies and NGOs.

County Wicklow Network for Older People, thanks to funding received from the Social Inclusion Division, Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs, are hosting an Older Persons Sportsfest in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh on the 24 September from 10.30 am to 3.30pm. The day is open to all older people living in the county and everyone is encouraged to come along try a little exercise and have some fun. Fitness level is no obstacle to participating as there will be a wide range of activities for all. Activities on the day will include Line-dancing, Ten Pin Bowling, Nordic Walking, Badminton, Yoga, T'ai Chi, Kurling.

Monaghan Community Forum and Monaghan Volunteer Centre are working together to hold Active Citizenship and Social Inclusion Week to promote social inclusion and volunteerism and to celebrate the wonderful work that is currently being carried out by the community & voluntary sector in county Monaghan. We will also be using this opportunity to show people the value of volunteering both personally and for the community as a whole, and encouraging people to get involved in their community, particularly those from groups at risk of social exclusion.

We are encouraging everyone countywide, to take part in our 'Through Your Eyes' photography competition. We are looking for photos from all over Co. Monaghan from all kinds of people with a 'Social Inclusion' and an 'Active Citizenship' theme. Winning photographs with a 'Social Inclusion' theme will be used as an educational resource to promote awareness of social inclusion in the county. Winning photographs with an 'Active Citizenship' theme will feature in a calendar specially designed for the European Year of Volunteering 2011. Photographs will also be displayed throughout the county from 27th September – 1st October 2010.

Traveller Celebration Day held from 2-6pm, at the Cathedral ('SEM') Field, in Killarney.

The family 'culture and fun' day is free, and everybody is welcome. The day aims to celebrate and increase awareness around Traveller culture, and to promote inclusion by bringing the whole community together through culture, music, fun and child-friendly activities.

  St. Catherine’s Community Services Centre, Carlow is proud to announce the “ All Together” project, a participatory project that saw over two hundred people involved in creating an interactive DVD. The theme of the project is social inclusion using an experiential process.  The process draws on the principles of “Active Citizenship” and was powered by artistic creativity in a way that unmasked exclusion and supports social change. The DVD will be launched at Carlow Social inclusion week.

St. Michael's Theatre/Reel New Ross Film Project - New Ross, Co. Wexford

As part of the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, Reel New Ross Film Project will be facilitating an outreach project with adults with an intellectual disability who attend County Wexford Community Workshop. The participants will be trained in all of the key aspects involved in filmmaking: camera operation, sound recording, lighting, storyboarding and editing. The group will then develop and produce a short documentary film dealing with the theme of social exclusion, based on their own experiences.


The film will receive a gala premiere in St. Michael's Theatre, New Ross and will be available on DVD and the internet in December.
