The Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection is part of a European Commission network called EURES (European Employment Services) that links the databases of European Public Employment Services.

The purpose of EURES is to provide information, advice and recruitment/placement (job-matching) services for the benefit of workers and employers as well as any citizen wishing to benefit from the principle of the free movement of persons.

The European Commission is providing co-funding to EURES. EURES is jointly backed by the European Social Fund (ESF) and Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection on an equal funding basis. For the period 2015 - 2020 the allocation from each of the ESF and YEI is €1.35 m approx.

EURES Ireland website was set up in December 2016 as a single point of contact for information on EURES Ireland services for jobseekers and employers.
