The Citizens Information Board is the national agency responsible for supporting the provision of information, advice and advocacy on social services and was formerly known as Comhairle.

Comhairle Act 2000

The Comhairle Act 2000 provided for the establishment of Comhairle as the national agency responsible for supporting the provision of information, advice and advocacy on social services. 

Citizens Information Act 2007

The Citizens Information Act 2007 amended the Comhairle Act 2000 to change the name of this agency to the Citizens Information Board and conferred an additional function of providing personal advocacy services to certain persons with disabilities. 

The Comhairle Act 2000 was further amended in 2008 to extend the functions of the Citizens Information Board to include the provision of the Money Advice and Budgeting Service.
