One Parent Family Payment


One-Parent Family Payment is a payment for men and women who are bringing up a child without the support of a partner.


Deserted Wife's Allowance


The Deserted Wife's Allowance was closed off to new applications with effect from 2 January 1997 when One-Parent Family Payment was introduced. Deserted Wife's Allowance is a means tested payment made to women under the age of 66 years who have no dependent children, who were deserted by their husband and who do not qualify for Deserted Wife's Benefit.


Deserted Wife's Benefit


The Deserted Wife's Benefit scheme was closed off to new applications with effect from 2 January 1997 , when One-Parent Family Payment was introduced. Deserted Wife's Benefit is a payment made to a woman deserted by her husband. Entitlement to payment is based on social insurance contributions paid by the wife or her husband.


Prisoners Wife's Allowance


Prisoner's Wife's Allowance was closed off to new applications with effect from 2 January 1997 when One-Parent Family Payment was introduced.  Prisoner's Wife's Allowance is a means tested payment made to women under 66 years of age whose husband is in prison and who have no dependent children.


Child Benefit


Child Benefit is a monthly payment for each qualified child normally living with you and being supported by you.


Adoptive Benefit


Adoptive Benefit is a payment for an adopting parent who adopts a child. You may get it if you are an employee or a self-employed person and if you satisfy certain PRSI conditions on your own record.


Guardian's Payment (Contributory)


An Orphan may get Guardian's Payment (Contributory) based on their parent's or step-parent's PRSI contributions. The guardian of the orphan(s) gets the payment.


Guardian’s Payment (Non-Contributory)


An orphan may get Guardian's Payment (Non-contributory), based on the orphan's means test.  The guardian of the orphan(s) gets the payment.


Maternity Benefit


Maternity Benefit is a payment for employed and self-employed pregnant women who satisfy certain PRSI contribution conditions on their own insurance record.


Health and Safety Benefit


Health and Safety Benefit is a weekly payment for women who are granted health and safety leave under the Maternity Protection Act, 1994.  Health and safety leave is granted to an employee when the employer cannot remove a risk to her health or safety during her pregnancy or while breastfeeding, or cannot give her other 'risk-free' duties.
