Budget 2009 - Main Improvements

Older People

  • Extra €166 million package of support for older people
  • €7 per week increase for all pensioners and carers aged 66 years & over
  • €13.30 weekly increase for pensioner couples
  • Extra €30 million energy package - Fuel Allowance season to be extended by 2 weeks to 32 weeks and Fuel Allowance to increase by €2 to €20 per week

People of Working Age

  • Extra €262 million increases in rates to support people of working age
  • €6.50 per week increase on all working age payments - which includes Jobseeker’s Benefit & Allowance, Illness Benefit, Disability Allowance, One Parent Family Payment and Carer’s Benefit & Allowance (under 66 years)
  • €4.30 per week increase in respect of qualified adults
  • €8.50 per week increase in the minimum rate of Maternity and Adoptive Benefit

Families and Children

  • €56 million improvements in support of families and children
  • Qualified child increase to increase by €2 to €26 per week
  • All Family Income Supplement (FIS) income thresholds to increase by €10 per week per child
  • Income threshold for the Back to School Clothing and Footwear scheme to increase to allow more families to qualify
