You may qualify for the allowance if:
- you are providing for the care of the child,
- the child will need continuous care and attention for at least 12 months,
- the child ordinarily resides in the State,
- the child normally lives with you, and
- the child is not detained in a children's detention school.
You may receive a reduced monthly payment if the child is living in an institution for up to 5 days in any one week.
Note:
To qualify for Domiciliary Care Allowance you must meet the Habitual Residence Condition. This condition took effect from 1 May 2004 and affects all applicants regardless of nationality.
