Statement from the Department of Social and Family Affairs

Industrial action affecting Social Welfare offices ends

Following discussions at the Labour Relations Commission today, agreement has been reached between the Department of Social and Family Affairs and the Civil Public and Services Union (CPSU) in relation to the piloting, in the first instance, of extended flexi time bands in the Department.
The agreement also provides for separate discussions to begin immediately on additional opening times to the public at Social Welfare Local Offices.
Minister for Social and Family Affairs Mary Hanafin TD, welcomed the agreement and thanked the Labour Relations Commission for their efforts in facilitating the parties in finding a resolution to the dispute.
The current industrial action will cease immediately and it is expected that normal service to the public at all Social Welfare offices will resume by Monday next (30th June) at the latest.
