MEDICAL CERTIFICATES - Credited Contributions for Public servants

(1) Definition

Civil and Public servants aged under 66 who were paying PRSI at Class B, C or D and retire due to ill health are entitled to credited contributions for each week they are certified unfit for work.

Article 67 of S.I. 312 of 1996 refers.

Credited contributions, which continue cover for Widow's or Widower's Contributory Pension, are awarded on receipt of medical certification of illness and inability to work to cover the period in question. Medical Certificates should be sent in once a year, dated from 1st January to 31st December of the relevant year, and should be submitted within 8 months of the completion of the contribution year for which the credits are being sought.

On receipt of the necessary documentation credited contributions are awarded. Great care should be taken in the award of these credited contributions on the Central records System and translists should always be carefully checked for accuracy.

An information leaflet together with an application form, "Giving up work because of ill health" is available on request, SW 20 / CR 35.
