Department of Social Protection-Twitter Policy

Content

The Department of Social Protection’s Twitter account is managed by our Website and Information Services Areas, on behalf of colleagues across the Department.

If you follow us, you can expect at least three tweets per week covering some or all of the following:

  • Press Releases and speeches
  • Event information
  • Alerts about new content on our website
  • Invitations to participate in online surveys
  • “Emergency” communications – information on any service disruption as soon as it happens
  • Other information, for example, on office opening times at Christmas and Easter, changes to payment schedules during holidays, etc.

Following

We only follow the Houses of the Oireachtas, other Irish Government Departments and any agencies of this Department which have a presence on Twitter.

If you follow us, we will not automatically follow you back. This is to help our followers identify other key Twitter users (see above) that we are actually following.

Availability

We will update and monitor our Twitter account during office hours, Monday to Friday. We will tweet all followers to let them know when we are closed for Bank Holidays, etc.

Twitter may occasionally be unavailable and we accept no responsibility for lack of service due to Twitter downtime.

@Replies and Direct Messages

We welcome feedback and ideas from all our followers, and will try to join the conversation where possible. However, we may not be able to reply individually to all the messages we receive via Twitter.

Please do not include your PPS Number or any other personal information in your tweets to us.

We will read all @replies and Direct Messages and ensure that emerging themes or helpful suggestions are passed to the relevant people in the Department.

The usual ways of contacting us for official correspondence are detailed in the Contact Us area of our website.
